Physical and Functional Assessments for Injury Prevention and Mobility Enhancement

We offer comprehensive physical and functional assessments designed to evaluate your body's capabilities and identify potential areas of concern. Our experienced physiotherapists will conduct a thorough examination, assessing your musculoskeletal, circulatory, respiratory, and nervous systems to gain a holistic understanding of your physical condition.

By uncovering any imbalances, weaknesses, or limitations, we can develop personalized treatment plans and targeted exercises to address these areas proactively. Our assessments not only help us provide effective treatment but also aid in preventing future injuries and enhancing your mobility.

Relieve Back Pain and Regain Your Freedom of Movement

Joan is passionate about running a low-volume facility that provides long-term clients with an extraordinary level of care. She has hand-picked a talented staff of physiotherapists that has been by her side for 10 years and counting. Together, our team is wholly devoted to superior physiotherapy through continual education and collaborative development. As a clinic, we treat a diverse range of clients, from individuals in need of post-surgery rehabilitation to high-performance athletes. Among our past clientele are the Toronto Raptors and Canada Basketball’s Olympic team.

To learn more about our mission and operations as a physiotherapy practice, we invite you to explore our YouTube channel and online blog.

Your Initial Physiotherapy Assessment

In order to provide you with the care necessary to ease the pains associated with your recovery or chronic condition, we must first conduct a thorough physiotherapy assessment. By reviewing your medical history and the current health of your musculoskeletal, circulatory, respiratory, and nervous systems, we can address the issues impacting those systems more efficiently.

During your initial visit to our clinic, we will perform an in-depth assessment of your physical condition and develop a personalized treatment plan. We kindly request that you bring along any previous medical scans, reports, or letters that you have from other medical practitioners, as these will help us form a more accurate diagnosis.

The stages of your first visit will be as follows:

  • One-on-one interview
  • Physical examination
  • Diagnosis
  • Treatment plan recommendation
  • Schedule planning

Patient-Focused Facilities

By the way, our state-of-the-art facility is specially designed with your privacy in mind. Our clinic boasts multiple treatment rooms and a gym, and we operate in such a way as no two physical therapists use the same room at once. You’ll receive one-on-one care in a completely private and confidential setting.

Privacy Is Key

We believe it is important to emphasize the confidentiality and privacy of our interactions with clientele. If you choose to visit our facilities for your consultation, you will have our staff’s full attention and discretion.

Most insurance companies and third-party payers recognize our services. Your receipt will showcase our billing number, which you can give your insurance carrier to receive coverage. If you have further questions about insurance reimbursement, don’t hesitate to drop us a line.

Virtual Physical Therapy Options

Typically, an initial consultation is performed in our low-volume clinic. While our in-clinic appointments are conducted in private rooms, we have recently expanded our practice to give our clients the option for virtual consultations. During a remote appointment, you will use video conferencing technology to speak with one of our physical therapists from a personal device at home.

A remote initial consultation takes place much the same way as an in-clinic consultation would. Our PTs will develop their diagnosis based on the verbal information you provide. In lieu of a physical examination, our PTs will ask you to perform certain movements or exercises in front of the camera. That way, we can assess your condition visually. Typically, this is sufficient to diagnose common issues and create at-home treatment plans. Sometimes, although rarely, we may need to refer you to our on-site physio team for hands-on treatment.

At-Home Virtual Physical Therapy

Since we started our virtual care appointments, they have been a popular alternative for clients who wish to stay home. As a clinic, we've heavily invested in our computer software so that we can offer our clients a reliable and secure video connection with a high-quality image—just as good as if you were with us in-person.

Our PTs use our video chat platform to give you all the same information we would at our clinic. We'll walk you through exercise techniques and demonstrate them with you until you are comfortable with the movements. For supplementary support, we can transmit helpful resources to you online, like photographs and videos.

At our clinic, virtual technology is a valuable tool. More and more, virtual appointments are the future of the health care industry, and we're delighted to offer our clients the option to engage in physical therapy from the convenience and safety of their homes.

At-Home Treatment Plans

There are so many ways to improve your physical health and rehabilitate your body without stepping foot outdoors. During our virtual consultations, we create individualized treatment plans that can be performed at home. Often, the exercises we prescribe don't even require specialized equipment. Rather, we prefer to recommend exercises and activities that use your body weight or can be easily performed with everyday objects that you certainly have at home already, like chairs and walls.

Your Personalized Treatment Regimen

The secret to our success lies in the customization of our services. Being the professionals that we are, we know there is no one-size-fits-all model to physiotherapy. Every client has different needs. There are many reasons why one might be limited in their mobility, and pain can stem from any number of issues or incidences. Rest assured, we will uncover these issues. With our personalized treatment regimens, we will improve your quality of life.

Based on the results of your assessment, our physiotherapists will suggest a treatment plan tailored to you. You’ll appreciate the level of thought that we put into our regimens. We will take your schedule, habits, and goals into consideration as we recommend a winning combination of physical training, massage therapy, self-treatment techniques, corrective exercises, or manual physiotherapy to your daily routine.

Successful physiotherapy requires great diligence and patience. It requires participation on your part, and encouragement from those overseeing your treatment. As patient-focused professionals, we will give you all the encouragement you need to improve your quality of life. We’ll be your faithful ally every step of the way, providing meticulous monitoring of your progress and regular revisions to your strategy, where necessary.

Physical Therapy Services

Home-based, virtual physical therapy is a service we offer to clients who are not able to make it to the clinic. This service is generally available to:

  • Private clients
  • Clients recovering from surgery
  • Clients suffering from mental trauma
  • Pediatric clients

As with all clients, the first visit will consist of a subjective assessment, physical exam and diagnosis. This will possibly be followed by the start of your treatment.

Addressing Issues Big and Small

We want the people of the Toronto area to know that at-home physical therapy is not just for those recovering from severe injuries or surgeries. Pain and discomfort can arise from any number of everyday activities, and that pain can manifest in myriad ways.

Do you live with inexplicable shoulder pain? Are you unsure why you even feel pain in the shoulder area? We can help you. During your clinical physiotherapy diagnosis, we will determine the proper course of action.

Some of the shoulder-related issues we can address include:

  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Tendonitis
  • Tendinopathy
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Bursitis
  • Labral tears

  • And more

Booking a Session

Booking a physiotherapy session is easy using our online booking platform.

If you are already enrolled at Healthfx Physiotherapy, your therapist can also help out! At Healthfx Physiotherapy we are happy to help the people of Toronto get access to physical therapy in whichever way suits them best.

Your First Session

To prepare for your first session so that you are comfortable and ready to get to work when your therapist arrives, we recommend you do the following:

Be sure to wear clothing you feel comfortable in. Your therapist will likely be evaluating your mobility and strength so you’ll want to be able to move easily.

Be prepared to answer questions regarding the nature and extent of your problem. This could also include questions about pre-existing conditions, allergies and phobias.

Bring your best attitude! A lot of physical therapy is about having the drive to do the work. It is quite likely that your therapy will start at your first appointment, so be prepared to jump right in.

Comfort is of the utmost importance during your physiotherapy session. We want you to be as receptive to our treatment as possible. Whatever conditions you prefer related to music or lighting, we will gladly oblige. In the comfort of your own home, you have the final say on the ambiance and atmosphere.

What Will Be Involved?

Your therapist will be able to address many problems during your sessions including:

  • Pain
  • Balance
  • Endurance limitations
  • Short-term or long-term injury
  • Weakness
  • Stiffness
  • Trouble managing daily tasks

Techniques that may be applied as part of your therapy can include, but are not limited to:

  • Massage
  • Exercise and movement
  • Occupational development

Massage is suitable for most clients and is tailored to each individual. Along with exercise and movement to help with flexibility and range of motion, these practices are the most common in physical therapy.

Conditions Treated

We pride ourselves on our multi-faceted and versatile nature. Our patients come to our clinic for a wide array of reasons. From injury prevention to post-surgery rehabilitation, we can assist you with a range of mobility issues. Your therapist will be able to address many problems during your sessions including:

  • Pain
  • Balance
  • Recovering from any musculoskeletal injury
  • ACL knee surgery
  • Arthritis
  • Arthroscopic surgery recovery
  • Back and neck pain
  • Hip and knee pain
  • Sprains and strains

  • Rehabilitation

This list is by no means exhaustive. To learn more about the specific mobility issues and ailments we treat, get in touch with our team.

Moving Forward

In-home physical therapy is available as a one-time consult, ongoing or as a set number of treatments. Depending on your condition, you may also decide as you go.

If you are recovering from an accident or other reason for hospitalization, your therapist will encourage you to reach a point in your occupational rehabilitation where you can begin to make visits to the Healthfx Physiotherapy clinic.

While the advantages of in-home therapy are many, there are disadvantages as well in the form of limitations to the type of therapy you could be receiving. Rehabilitation practices such as electrotherapy and hydrotherapy are only available in controlled environments and if one of these is ideal for your condition, it would be beneficial for you to work towards visiting the clinic.

No matter what your ailment is, our therapists are here to help you move forward at a pace that is best for you.

In-Home Physical Therapy

In-home physical therapy allows our therapists to connect with you where you are most comfortable. We work with patients experiencing a wide variety of injuries and medical diagnoses and go above and beyond to provide the support needed for you to reach your goals.

Our interventions can help you gain strength, improve flexibility and mobility, and balance, all from the safety of your home environment. When you welcome us into your home, we promise to treat you with the utmost respect.

Many of our clients prefer having their physiotherapy done at home, especially adults. If you are recovering from an injury, getting to the physio office could be a risk for further damage, and if you want to avoid that, our at-home services could be perfect for you. If that sounds like the kind of service you want, please contact us today, and we will find out all the information we need to know for the right schedule and time to come by to your home.

We will do our best to make all the information we pass to you as understandable as possible. We always have time to answer your questions, so please do not hesitate to ask them when you have them. The last thing we want is for our clients to feel confused on how to proceed once they've left our office. You knowing more about your body parts won't hurt. So, when we are helping heal a certain area, we will do our best to inform you as much as possible.

Personalized Physical Therapy Exercises

To provide the most effective service possible, it is important that we first get to know our client’s individual needs. Before we develop your treatment plan, we will take the time to sit down with you to discuss your current physical health and goals for therapy. Once we properly understand your situation, our experts will be able to create a detailed course of action to help you achieve optimal health and wellness.

Some of the services that we can provide through our customized physical therapy sessions include:

  • Sports therapy

We will never twist and jerk your body around or cause any pain. We will always be gentle with you while targeting your pain and fixing it. Before you leave every session, you will have a detailed report of our work and what you can do off-time to continue your physiotherapy when you aren't in the office with us.

Benefits of Physical Therapy

At Healthfx Physiotherapy, our core focus is to preserve our clients’ range of motion and restore functionality so our patients can return to their daily activities. We accomplish this by first identifying areas that have been impacted, then applying strategic techniques to improve the strength and flexibility of the targeted muscular system and joints surrounding the impacted region of the body. Aside from temporary relief, many benefits result from attending regular sessions, including the following.

Pain Relief

One direct benefit of physical therapy is decreasing or eliminating chronic pain. At Healthfx Physiotherapy, we focus on specialized exercises integrated with targeted therapeutic techniques, such as joint and soft tissue treatment. This approach is highly effective at reducing and preventing pain return.

Improved Mobility

Physical therapy focuses on custom-tailored techniques of specific strengthening and stretching exercises to restore function, enhance joint stabilization, and improve muscle quality and strength. After multiple sessions, patients enjoy improved mobility in the targeted region of their body.

Preparation for Surgery

Our physiotherapists apply therapeutic techniques to prepare the body for upcoming surgery and recovery. In some cases, therapeutic approaches can be so beneficial that surgery is no longer needed.

Enhanced Balance and Coordination

Our physiotherapists conduct specific tests to determine the strength of the patient's motor development. They’ll administer coordination and balance exercises to help their patients perform particular tasks with better balance and coordination. For instance, they may have their patient pick up an object repeatedly until their balance is restored. This is particularly beneficial for sports athletes because repetitive motion is the nature of every sport.

Heart and Lung Function Improvement

Heart and lung rehabilitation is often under the care of a physiotherapist. It involves administering specific breathing exercises and lung strengthening techniques to help rehabilitate lungs back to optimal functioning condition.

Physiotherapy is a multifaceted medical discipline that targets every region of the body, and sports athletes can benefit greatly from it, even without significant injury.

If you want to learn more about how our services can benefit you and help you restore your overall well-being, don't hesitate to get in touch to book a consultation. We’ll schedule a consultation where you’ll meet with one of our physiotherapists, who’ll perform a full body assessment to determine the best course of rehabilitation action.
